Pupils receive exam results
09/08/2005
Pupils throughout Scotland will today receive their exam
results and for the great majority it will be good
news.
Education Minister Peter Peacock said Scotland's
internationally recognised high quality education system is
continuing to deliver improved results with the Higher pass
rate up to 71.2 per cent (from 70.7 per cent) and more A
and B grades are being awarded.
Overall, the results show the general trend of steadily
improving performance across the board - in most subjects
and at all levels - is continuing.
In particular:
- Higher English pass rate is 66.1
per cent, up 2.1 per cent
- Higher maths pass rate after
recent growth remains unchanged at 67.8 per cent
Mr Peacock, who today returned to Stirling's St Modan's
High School to talk to pupils he met while they were
preparing for this year's exams, said:
"Today new doors of opportunity open for thousands of
Scotland's young people with exam results to match many
months of study and hard work by them and their
teachers.
"Our education system is respected internationally as
being among the strongest but we have the ambition and
investments to do even better in future.
"Today's results show the professionalism of our
teachers, the hard work of pupils and the support of
parents. Our education system is making steady progress-
exactly what I want to see.
"Today Scotland should celebrate with pupils, parents
and teachers and take pride in the fact we have a sound
education system, but one we want to take to new heights in
future.
"For those who have not achieved what they hoped for
today our education system will still provide them with
opportunities to study and meet their ambitions."
