Guide to Wild Scotland
30/06/2005
A guide to Scotland's key wildlife attractions was
published today.
Visitscotland and Wild Scotland (the National
Association of Wildlife Operators) have teamed up with
leading conservation agencies to produce a full colour
brochure and website highlighting around 250
attractions.
It is hoped that the
Wildlife
Scotland brochure and website, launched in time for the
influx in visitors to Scotland for the G8 Summit, will help
visitors pinpoint exactly what they want to see and do.
Tourism Minister Patricia Ferguson said:
"Wildlife tourism is very important to Scotland,
particularly the economies of our rural communities.
Increasingly, more people are coming to Scotland to enjoy
Scotland's wonderful array of wildlife, which offer
experiences that are second to none.
"The launch of this brochure and website will help
visitors plan their trip, and educates people about the
importance of protecting Scotland's outdoors and its
wildlife."
According to the Deputy Chairman of Visitscotland, Mike
Cantley, wildlife watching in Scotland is now the third
most significant outdoor activity after walking and
golf.
In 2002, there were more than 5 million visits to
wildlife activities and sites in Scotland.
