Scottish Water's Annual Report and Accounts for 2004-05
were laid in Parliament today.
Deputy Minister for Environment and Rural Development
Lewis Macdonald said the latest figures showed that the
creation of a single publicly-owned water authority has led
to increased savings and improved drinking water
quality.
He said they also demonstrate increased compliance with
environmental standards.
The minister continued:
"Scottish water is delivering record levels of
investment, improved drinking water quality and increased
efficiency. This unique public service is now costing
customers £2 million less per week to operate in comparison
to the three former water authorities.
"The Executive is committed to retaining Scottish Water
in the public sector whilst ensuring the effective and
efficient delivery of improved services to its
customers."
Scottish Water was formed in 2002 following the merger
of the three regional water authorities - North of
Scotland, West of Scotland and East of Scotland Water.
