Highlands and Islands Enterprise re-appointments

Susan Torrance and Andrew Rogers have been re-appointed to the Board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

Susan Torrance lives in Tain. She is Managing Director of Tulloch Homes Express Ltd, the affordable housing division of the Tulloch Group, a major Scottish builder and developer. Her career has also spanned senior roles in Braidgrove, a technology and contact centre business, Albyn Housing Society, the Housing Corporation and the Scottish Agricultural Organisation. She is also a part-time farmer and Highland Cattle breeder.

Andrew Rogers lives in Fort William. He is Mill Manager of the BSW Timber sawmill in Fort William which produces sawn timber products for the UK construction, fencing and packaging markets. He is also on the Board of the Governors of the UHI Millennium Institute.

Neither Mrs Torrance nor Mr Rogers hold any other Ministerial appointments.

These re-appointments will be for three years and will run from 1 April 2005 to 31 March 2008.

The posts are part-time and attract a remuneration of £9,651 for a time commitment of two days per month.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise is a non-departmental public body (NDPB) and is the Scottish Executive's main vehicle for economic development in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland

These Ministerial public appointments were made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

In the last five years, Mrs Torrance has acted as a political agent for an Independent candidate in the local elections and canvassed on behalf of the Labour Party in the general election campaigns. Mr Rogers has not been involved in any political activity.
