27/04/2005

Quality Scottish seafood is being showcased at the world's largest international seafood exhibition in Brussels today.

The 29 Scottish companies taking part in the European Seafood Exposition (ESE) already export products to businesses all over Europe, Egypt, the Philippines, the USA, Australia and the Far East.

Exhibitors include Portsoy based company Gourmet's Choice who are launching three new smoked salmon sushi products to develop new markets in Japan and China.

Speaking at the Exposition, Fisheries Minister Ross Finnie said:

"Scotland enjoys an excellent worldwide reputation for its food and drink. The Scottish Executive is committed to working with the industry to open new markets at home and abroad.

"Since 2001 we have supported 145 fisheries processing projects with some £20 million assistance from the Processing & Marketing Grant Scheme. This has in turn generated £90m investment in the industry throughout Scotland.

"The range and quality of the food on display here today is a real testament to Scottish companies who have identified new markets and secured clients worldwide."

Participating companies include: Bellamy Group, Moray Seafoods, Caley Fisheries, Shetland Salmon Farmers, Escomar Seafoods Ltd, Shetland Producers, Gourmets Choice, Lerwick Fish Traders, International Fish Canners (Scotland) Ltd, Croan Seafoods Ltd, G&J Jack Ltd, Denholm Seafoods, Loch Duart Ltd, Fresh Catch, Lossie Seafoods Ltd, Scottish Fishermen's Organisation, Lunar Freezing, Shetland Catch, Macduff Shellfish Ltd, Shetland Fish Processor Association, Mainstream Scotland, Croan Seafoods Ltd, Nor Sea, Sea Products of Scotland, Whitelink, Seafood Scotland, Scofish, J K Thomson and Scotprime Seafoods.
