New campus for Fife College
22/04/2005
A new £16 million redevelopment of Fife College's St
Brycedale Campus was officially opened today.
First Minister Jack McConnell said that the excellence
of teaching and learning in Scotland's colleges needs to be
matched by world class facilities.
The First Minister opened the facility in Kirkcaldy. He
said:
"This is a fantastic new campus. Scotland has a
worldwide reputation for the quality of its education
system, but if we are to maintain that reputation we need
world class facilities.
"If our students are to develop their skills in an
environment that is relevant to the modern workplace, then
they need access to the best equipment and the best
buildings. This new campus does just that.
"Superb facilities like this one encourage people to
learn. They convince those who might otherwise never have
dreamt of passing through the gates to seek out new skills
and gain new qualifications. Everyone who studies here will
feel the benefits now and for many years to come."
Fife College has around 14,000 students of which
approximately 3000 are in higher and 11,000 in further
education.
The campus redevelopment was funded with financial
support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF),
Scottish Further Education Funding Council and the Scottish
Arts Council.
