International Food and Drink Exhibition

Twenty seven Scottish companies are displaying their
goods in the Scottish pavilion at the International Food
and Drink Exhibition at ExCel in London's Docklands.
Another three are in sector-specific areas at an
exhibiton that is expected to attract some 25,000 visitors
from around the world. There will be around 1,350 companies
exhibiting food and drink products from over 43
countries.
Products on show include fruit juice with an added
supplement for a healthier option, unique sandwich fillings
using high quality fish and a new fruit-flavoured water all
adding value to meet market demand.
Companies include global operators such as Walkers
Shortbread and Baxter's through to small regional producers
like Galloway Gold Chocolates.
Scotland has been exhibiting at IFE for the last 14
years. New pavilions in 2005 include Tunisia, Switzerland,
Ecuador, Turkey, Argentina and Thailand
In London, Rural Development Minister Ross Finnie
said:
"The Scottish Executive is committed to working with
producers and processors to add value to Scottish
produce.
"The Scottish companies on show here today provide an
excellent example of food businesses focused on meeting
market demand for high quality produce. That is the key to
prosperity and sustainability.
"These companies demonstrate what can be done to keep
ahead of our competitors. I have been encourage by the
showcase of Scottish produce I have seen today and we will
continue to work to raise standards and our profile on the
European stage."
Since 2001 the Scottish Executive has awarded grant
funding totalling over £45 million to food businesses
through the Processing and Marketing Grants scheme and the
Marketing Development Scheme.
