Procurator Fiscal Service

Mrs Janet Cameron has been appointed by the Lord
Advocate Colin Boyd QC to the post of Area Procurator
Fiscal for Lanarkshire, taking up the post on January
24.
Mrs Cameron, previously the Area Procurator Fiscal for
Ayrshire, is taking over from Jim Brisbane who has been
appointed Deputy Crown Agent, based at Crown Office in
Edinburgh.
Ian Murray, District Procurator Fiscal for Ayr, will be
taking over from Mrs Cameron as Interim Area Procurator
Fiscal for Ayrshire.
The Lord Advocate said:
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Janet
Cameron as Area Procurator Fiscal for Lanarkshire. Having
been the Area Procurator Fiscal for Ayrshire for over three
years, Janet is highly experienced in this role.
"She is a well-respected member of the department who
will work with local criminal justice partners to tackle
crime and improve the service that the Crown Office and
Procurator Fiscal Service delivers to local
communities.
"I am also pleased to be able to announce the
appointment of Ian Murray as Interim Area Procurator Fiscal
for Ayrshire.
"Ian has made a significant contribution to the
prosecution service in Ayr where he has been District
Procurator Fiscal for over three years. As an experienced
prosecutor, who is familiar with Ayrshire, Ian will
continue to develop the high standard of service provided
within the area throughout his appointment."
Mr Murray said:
"This is a particularly exciting time to be taking up
this post within Ayrshire, as we are increasingly engaging
with criminal justice partners to ensure that we provide a
seamless, efficient service to local communities. We are
also getting the most from our resources through
intelligent use of technology. I am looking forward to be
taking up the post of Interim Area Procurator Fiscal in
Ayrshire and I wish my predecessor, Janet, all the very
best in Lanarkshire."
Biographies
Janet Cameron graduated from Glasgow
University in 1975. Janet started a legal apprenticeship
in private practice before transferring to local Government
and joined the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service
in 1978. She has spent time as a Procurator Fiscal Depute
in Lanark and Hamilton before transferring to Crown Office
in 1989. There she became Senior Legal Assistant in the
High Court and Fraud Units.
She was promoted to Senior Depute, Glasgow in 1995 and
returned to Crown Office in 1997 on the Management Services
Group before being promoted to Head of the High Court Unit
in 1999. In 2001, Janet moved to be Head of the Quality
and Practice Review Unit before being appointed Area
Procurator Fiscal, Ayrshire in August 2002.
Ian Murray graduated with an MA from
Glasgow University in 1969, and went on to gain an LLB from
Edinburgh University in 1971. He joined the Crown Office
and Procurator Fiscal Service in 1973 and spent time as a
Procurator Fiscal Depute in Dundee, Glasgow and
Edinburgh.
In 1982 he returned to Glasgow on promotion to the post
of Senior Depute, and remained there until 1988 when he
became the Assistant procurator Fiscal at Aberdeen.
In 1992 he took up the post of Assistant Procurator
Fiscal at Hamilton - a job that he held until November
2001, when he gained promotion to the post of District
Procurator Fiscal at Ayr. He is married with one son.
