Trunk road maintenance contracts

10/01/2005

Expressions of interest are being sought as part of the retendering of the first two trunk road management and maintenance contracts, Transport Minister Nicol Stephen announced today.

The current four contracts covering the North West, North East, South West and South East, were awarded to BEAR and Amey in 2001 and will run up until April 2006 with a two-year extension to 2008 if needed.

Contractors interested in tendering for the North West and South West units are now being sought following an advert in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Adverts for the second two will follow once the results of this first phase are completed.

Mr Stephen said:

"Our trunk road network is a vital link for businesses and communities across the country. Keeping the roads well maintained and clear for traffic will be a key role for these companies.

"We will be looking very carefully at the work of those bidding to ensure the highest standards are met."
