Richard John Staite, OBE, headteacher at Penicuik's Beeslack Community High School, has been awarded a knighthood in the 2005 New Years Honours List.
Elizabeth Kerr Burns, President of the International Association of Volunteer Effort has received a CMG. Gerard Brown, Solicitor Advocate; Peter Lederer, Chair of visitscotland; Susan Rice, Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Scotland, all received a CBE. Double Olympic champion Shirley Ann Robertson has been awarded an OBE.
Other recipients include musicians Jack and Thomas Alexander - MBE; Edwin Gillanders, agricultural journalist - MBE; Morag Gray, former Chief Executive of Hamilton Park Race Course - MBE; David Gunn, Glencoe Mountain Rescue - MBE; Christopher Hoy, Olympic Gold medallist - MBE; Dr George Wyllie, Sculptor - MBE.
The Queen's Police Medal was awarded to: David MELLOR, Deputy Chief Constable, Fife Constabulary; Robert SWANSON, Detective Superintendent, Lothian & Borders Police; John MCLEAN, Assistant Chief Constable, Strathclyde Police.
The Queen's Fire Service Medal was awarded to: Steven TORRIE, Deputy Firemaster, Lothian & Borders Fire Brigade; Brian SWEENEY, Firemaster, Strathclyde Fire Brigade; Daniel O'DONNELL, Deputy Firemaster, Fife Fire and Rescue.
