Businesses cash in on the arts
10/11/2004
Since 2000, arts projects - working closely with the
Arts & Business organisation - have levered in over £3
million in cash and in kind from the private sector.
Arts & Business promotes the development of new
partnerships between business and the arts.
Speaking ahead of the Arts & Business Reception at
the National Galleries of Scotland, Culture Minister
Patricia Ferguson said:
"The importance of sponsorship of the arts by business
cannot be underestimated. They recognise that a healthy
cultural scene is crucial to a creative and profitable
economy.
"Sponsorship of arts projects not only benefits the
recipients, but the sponsors too. Arts can help businesses
to flourish, and businesses reap the economic benefits by
being more widely involved with the communities they
serve.
"Arts & Business also operates a sponsorship scheme
for disability arts projects. Thirteen projects have
benefited from investment of £170,000.
The Executive has contributed £60,000 towards this
funding.
"We are committed to promoting equality and making sure
that everyone in our society has the opportunity to make
the most of their talents."
The Arts & Business New Partners Reception takes
place tonight at 18.30 hours in the Hawthornden Lecture
Theatre, Weston Link, National Galleries of Scotland, The
Mound, Edinburgh.
