Health Minister Malcolm Chisholm today announced two new
non-executive member appointments to Western Isles NHS
Board.
Mrs
Christina Smith is an Employment
Programmes Manager with Voluntary Action Lewis, a member
of the Western Isles Training Providers' Network.
She is a committee member of a number of voluntary
sector partnerships and networks. Her previous experience
includes work with the Gaelic Development Organisation, An
Comunn Gaidhealach, the NHS and the local Enterprise
Company. She does not hold any other ministerial
appointments.
Mrs
Mairi Bremner is a fluent Gaelic speaker
and a native of South Uist. She is a former member of
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, having served as the Councillor
for the Iochdar Ward from 1979 to 2003.
She served as Chairman of the Council's Social Work
Committee for 15 years and is currently Chair of the Gaelic
Development Agency CnaG, a position she has held since
1998. She does not hold any other Ministerial
appointments.
Both appointments will be from October 1, 2004, for a
period of four years.
It is expected that as a Member they will contribute
around eight hours per week for which the annual
remuneration is £4,090.
These Ministerial public appointments were made in
accordance with guidance issued by the Office of the
Commissioner of Public Appointments in Scotland.
All appointments are made on merit and political
activity plays no part in the selection process. However,
in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations,
there is a requirement for appointees' political activity
(if any declared) to be made public.
Within the last five years, Mrs Bremner has obtained
office as an Independent Councillor. Mrs Smith has not been
involved in any political activity.
