Executive response on relocation policy

13/09/2004

The Executive has today responed to the Scottish Parliament's Finance Committee report on relocation.

Deputy Finance and Public Services Minister Tavish Scott pledged to work with the Parliament as the Executive rolls out the policy of relocation of public sector jobs.

The Minister said there was much that the Executive and the Committee agreed on, including:

  • Decisions on relocation should be open and transparent
  • The Executive will continue to evaluate the impact of the relocation policy including taking the Committee's views into account in that process
  • Setting out clearer standards for staff consultation on relocation

Mr Scott said:

"Our relocation process is playing an important part in the continuing process of devolution. As the policy has developed the list of areas that have benefited, from Inverness to Galashiels, is expanding.

"The Committee's report has helpfully scrutinised aspects of the policy and practice around relocation and I believe we have responded positively to many of the constructive recommendations in the report.

"The Executive is not standing still when it comes to its relocation policy. We will continue to evaluate and make improvements where necessary, such as on transparency and communicating the objectives of the policy.

"The Executive would like to work with the Committee in shaping the future development of relocation policy."
