Criminal Law Conference in Quebec
09/08/2004
The Lord Advocate Colin Boyd QC will deliver a paper on
Scotland's approach to youth justice at the 18th conference
of the International Society for the Reform of Criminal
Law in Quebec, Canada this week.
He will also chair a session on international criminal
courts and tribunals.
The conference is an international forum for judges,
legislators, lawyers, academics and government officials to
share experiences and learn from each other.
Colin Boyd said:
"There is a substantial and fast moving agenda at
present in Scotland which is driving forward change in
respect of the whole youth justice system.
"Criminal justice systems across the world too are
operating in a changing environment.
"The youth crime initiatives and other changes currently
taking place in Scotland are an important contribution to
the conference debate on keeping justice systems just and
accountable. And we too can benefit.
"The prosecution service in Scotland is committed to
professional excellence and recognises it must be outward
looking to learn from, and contribute to, developments in
international and domestic law."
Mr Norman McFadyen, Crown Agent, Crown Office and
Procurator Fiscal Service, will also attend and speak on
protection of victims and witnesses in the context of
International Justice, Accountability and
Reconciliation.
The 19th ISCRL conference will be held in Edinburgh in
June 2005.
