Appointment to Board of SCRA

Euan Robson, the Deputy Minister for Education and Young
People today announced the appointment of a new member to
the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration.
The new member is:
Margaret Wells - aged 49, lives near St Andrews, Fife.
Mrs Wells was until recently a Director of Partnership
Development and the Child Health Commissioner for NHS
Lothian. She has had extensive experience in planning and
management of large scale organisational change. Mrs Wells
was President of the Association of Directors of Social
Work in 2000-01 and advised COSLA on social work
issues.
This appointment will be for four years and will run
from July 3 2004 to June 30 2008.
This post is part-time and attracts a remuneration of
£4293 for a time commitment of one and a half days per
month. Mrs Wells holds no other public appointments.
SCRA was established in 1995 and became operational in
1996. The basic function of the administration is to
support the work of the Principal Reporter in investigating
whether children may require compulsory measures of
supervision to deal with offending behaviour or to protect
the child. SCRA is wholly funded by the Scottish Executive
and in 2004-05 will receive £22.5m in grant.
This Ministerial public appointment was made in
accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Office
of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
All appointments are made on merit and political
activity plays no part in the selection process. However,
in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations,
there is a requirement for appointees' political activity
(if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Mrs
Wells declared that she had not been involved in any
political activity within the last five years.
