Scottish Screen Board appointment

A member of the Board of Scottish Screen has been re-appointed by the Culture Minister.

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport,FrankMcAveety, today announced the re-appointment of Donald Emslie, who was first appointed to the Board of Scottish Screen in July 2000.

Mr Emslie is the Chief Executive of SMG Television, Chairman of ITV Council and the GMTV Board and is a vice president of the Royal Television Society (RTS). He is also Chairman of the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company and Chair of the Scottish Industry Skills Panel and a Board Member of Skillset.

This reappointment will be for four years and will run fromJuly 1, 2004toJune 30, 2008.

This post is part-time and attracts no remuneration. There is a time commitment of six meetings per year but Board members may be involved in additional meetings and events. Mr Emslie holds no other public appointments.

Scottish Screen develops, encourages and promotes every aspect of film, television and new media inScotland. Working with the Scottish Executive, Scottish Screen's purpose is to establish Scotlandas a major screen production centre and project Scottish culture to the world. Scottish Screen receives Grant-In-Aid from the Executive of £2.685 million per year and distributes Lottery funds for film production of around £3 million per year.

This Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Mr Emslie declared no political activity.
