Community information event

17/06/2004

Members of ethnic minority communities from across Argyll and Clyde met with prosecutors from the Argyll and Clyde area, and their partners in the criminal justice system, to discuss mutual issues of interest and concern at an event at Paisley Sheriff Court last night.

Attendees came along to hear more about the work of the procurator fiscal and their role in the criminal justice system. Area Procurator Fiscal for Argyll and Clyde, John Miller, also took the opportunity to reaffirm the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service's (COPFS) commitment to tackling racial discrimination and racially motivated crime.

Staff from the Scottish Court Service and Strathclyde Police were also on hand to answer questions about their work with communities across the area.

John Miller, Area Procurator Fiscal for Argyll and Clyde said:

" This was an excellent opportunity to hear first-hand about the issues that impact upon and concern the communities we serve. I know that we, and our colleagues in the police and Court Service, will take their comments away and look closely at how we can work together to address these issues. "

The event is part of a nationwide drive by Procurators Fiscal to engage with the communities they serve.
