Funding for dairy business
15/06/2004
Investment in an extension to Rowan Glen's Newton
Stewart factory is expected to help them expand their
business and break into new markets.
Rowan Glen received over £400,000 of Executive
assistance towards a £3 million extension to their packing
hall and cold storage building. The investment is expected
to create ten full-time jobs while safeguarding a further
55 full-time jobs.
Rowan Glen branded products are currently supplied to
over 100 customers in Scotland. However, the new extension
allows the company to expand and produce yogurt and
pro-biotic drinks for Tesco, Sainsbury's, Safeway and the
catering trade throughout the UK.
Speaking at the opening of the extension Rural
Development Minister Ross Finnie said:
"The Executive is committed to supporting Scotland's
food industry in deriving greater value from our
first-class primary produce.
"The way forward for Scotland's dairy industry will
be in adding value and identifying new markets for dairy
products. Rowan Glen are a leading example of what can be
achieved when producers work closely with retailers to meet
the needs of consumers.
"This investment recognises that work and creates new
opportunities for the industry in South West Scotland."
Rowan Glen received over £411,075 of
Executive assistance under the Agriculture Processing and
Marketing Grant Scheme.
