Ross Finnie returns to work

20/04/2004

Ross Finnie, Minister for Environment and Rural Development, returned to office today following his three-month convalescence from heart bypass surgery.

The minister picked up his portfolio duties for the first time since taking sick leave in January. During his absence Deputy Minister Allan Wilson fulfilled the duties of Minister.

A fit and healthy Mr Finnie said:

"I am looking forward to taking up full ministerial responsibilities again.

"Obviously I would like to thank Allan Wilson for all his work, supported by officials, in keeping the portfolio moving forward in such a positive way through what were often some quite testing times.

"I extend my thanks to all the excellent medical staff who have been involved in my treatment and care over the recent months.

"The months ahead hold some important challenges and I look forward once again to working alongside colleagues, officials and stakeholders as we make progress."
