Financial provision statistics published

Figures are published today on emergency payments made to people in need by Local Authority Social Work departments inScotland.

The latest figures, which are outlined in a statistical release for the year1st April 2002to31st March 2003are published in a shortStatisticsRelease. These show that:

During the year to31 March 2003local authorities inScotlandmade an estimated 25,036 payments worth around £600,000 under section 12 of the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968.

During the year to31 March 2003local authorities inScotlandmade an estimated 70,717 payments worth over £3.2 million under section 22 of the Children (Scotland) Act 1995.
