Extension for rural stewardship applications

23/02/2004

Farmers and crofters leaving Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) schemes are to be granted an extra month to apply to join the Rural Stewardship Scheme (RSS).

The closing date for these farmers and crofters to apply to the RSS is being extended from March 31 to April 30.

The reason for the extension is that some ESA Scheme leavers may not be able to obtain the services of a professional adviser to draw up their RSS proposals in time to meet the original March 31 deadline.

However, it should be noted that extending the deadline to April 30 for ESA Scheme leavers is expected to have no more than a marginal impact on the timescale for advising RSS 2004 applicants whether they are to be offered funding for their proposals.
