NYSE comes to Scotland

14/01/2004

A visit to Scotland by the New York Stock Exchange will highlight to Scottish companies the benefits of seeking a listing on the Exchange, Enterprise Minister Jim Wallace said today.

The Minister made the announcement shortly after a breakfast meeting with officials from Scottish Development International and senior representatives of the NYSE, as part of his week-long US tour.

At the Wall Street event, the Minister highlighted the strong international focus of Scotland's corporate services sector and explored how to develop stronger relationships between New York's financial community and Scotland.

Mr Wallace said:

"I was delighted to be able to meet with executives at the New York Stock Exchange, and to have the opportunity to raise Scotland's profile in what is unarguably the financial capital of the world.

"We are proud of the global outlook of our key industries. Our focus must be on creating the conditions which will allow our global companies to continue to prosper in Scotland.

"I am also pleased to confirm that we are working with the NYSE on its plans to come to Scotland this summer. They hope to meet Scottish companies to highlight the benefits of seeking a listing on the Exchange. Listing can help Scottish businesses to grow by giving them access to new sources of investment capital and world-class trading services, increasing their international profile and involvement in global markets.

"I would urge Scottish firms to grasp the valuable opportunity that this presents."
