Euro funds for west of Scotland

Over £9 million of new European funding for economic
development projects across the west ofScotlandwas announced today.
Deputy Enterprise Minister Lewis Macdonald said
the new investment will create job opportunities and
boost local economies in Glasgow, Lanarkshire and
Ayrshire.
InGlasgowmore than £1.5 million will to help develop
theMuseumBusinessParkat Pollok, ultimately creating over 150 jobs and
£592,914 goes to Scottish Health Innovations Ltd for their
work on the commercialisation of medical.
In Lanarkshire, the North Lanarkshire
Environmental Key Fund receives £204,000 to enable
community groups to make environmental improvements in
their area. It is expected to create three community
facilities and to create 12 new jobs and 12 new
training opportunities.
Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire has been awarded
£78,000 for its Ayrshire Business in the Community
project.
The Lennox Partnership in Dunbartonshire receives
£70,081 for its Working in Tourism and Hospitality
project to help people develop skills and take up
employment.
The Wise Group's Recycle Renfrewshire project
which provides job and training opportunities to local
people through the recycling and refurbishment of PCs
and home furniture is awarded £115,633.
Mr Macdonald said:
"I'm delighted to announce this latest round of
funding, which will bring real benefit to the economy and
to business in the west ofScotland.
"The significant injection of cash to the area
will benefit a wide and diverse range of projects with
all projects receiving funds contributing to the
Executive aims of growing the economy and widening
opportunity.
"I'm pleased we can support theMuseumBusinessParkin Pollok. It will provide modern accommodation to
help attract new businesses to the Greater Pollok area and
keep existing businesses here. Seven construction jobs will
be created with a further 157 expected on completion of the
park.
"Another exciting and ambitious project is the
Glasgow-based Scottish Health Innovations ltd which has
been awarded £592,914 to support a dedicated innovation
fund. This fund will primarily support the
commercialisation of medical devices and processes and
Intellectual Property generated by the Health Trusts.
It will operate across the West of Scotland.
"This is the type of enterprise we are
encouraging and supporting - its aims are in line with
a key theme of the Executive's economic
strategy.
"I'm also pleased to announce £204,000 funding
for the North Lanarkshire Environmental Key Fund to
enable community groups to make environmental
improvements in their area.
"It is expected to create three community
facilities and to create 12 new jobs and 12 new
training opportunities."
TheWestern ScotlandObjective 2 Programme 2000-2006 was approved in
principle by the European Commission in November 2000. It
is worth €483 million (£336 million approximately) over the
period.
The 9
th round of awards to the Programme takes
the total amount of Structural Funds provided to date
to approximately £ 218 million.
