A major exhibition featuring the stunning works of Titian
is to be held inScotlandthis summer thanks to the ongoing support from public and
private sectors.
The Minister for Culture, Frank McAveety, today
announced that Lloyds TSB Scotland will sponsor the
National Galleries of Scotland's major summer exhibition,

Scottish Galleries.

It will take place at the newly refurbishedRoyalScottishAcademybuilding in August 2004.
Mr McAveety said:
"I am delighted to be able to pay tribute here today
to Lloyds TSB Scotland for its commitment to supporting the
Galleries. It is very encouraging to see such a flourishing
example of partnership between the public and private
sectors.
"Presenting exhibitions of this calibre is of huge
importance to the Galleries. They are potentially a
significant source of income and promote the National
Galleries as a world class institution, which attracts new
visitors.
"Scottish Ministers have been delighted to support the
National Galleries ofScotland's Playfair Project, which provides international
standard space for the Galleries' temporary exhibitions, and
also much needed educational facilities."
Titian's

exhibition. It was purchased by the National Galleries
ofScotlandunder the UK Government's scheme for Acceptance of Works
of Art in Lieu of Inheritance Tax, which is administered by the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport, with help in Scottish
cases from the Scottish Executive.

The Scottish Executive, the Heritage Lottery Fund,
the National Galleries and their private supporters all
contributed together to finance the purchase of this
painting for the nation.
The entire £30 million Playfair Project is due to be
completed this summer. The Executive's £10 million secured the
