Energy efficiency awards

07/01/2004

Five Scottish organisations have won awards for their performance at reducing energy consumption and production of carbon dioxide gas.

Angus Council, Hewlett Packard, National Archives of Scotland, Standard Life Assurance, and the University of Dundee have all been granted accreditation, following audits.

Award winners with Harry Waugh, assessor of the scheme.

Harry Waugh who, as well as carrying out the assessments works as an Energy Manager with Scottish Healthcare Supplies, said:

"At a time when concern for the environment and climate are high, it is very good to hear that Scottish businesses are putting themselves in the spotlight and being audited on their management of energy.

"The gaining of accreditation is by no means a formality. There is a rigorous examination of policies and procedures in place. The organisations should be congratulated for achieving the required standards."

The assessment is based around Management Commitment, Investment and Improvements gained and the criteria must be met to the satisfaction of the assessor, moderator and Energy Institute who award the certificate.
