New Year Honours

Three Scots have been awarded knighthoods in the 2004 New Year Honours List.

They are Menzies Campbell, veteran Lib Dem MP for North East Fife, Arnold Clark, chairman and chief executive of the eponymous motor dealership, and Richard Armstrong, musical director of Scottish Opera.

Martin O'Neill, manager of Celtic FC, receives an OBE and Professor Andrew Lorimer, until recently the President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons inGlasgow, becomes a CBE.

Other recipients include Alice Bell, the founder of a community centre for the elderly in Sighthill, Glasgow - OBE; union leader Jamie Webster - MBE; yachtswoman Emma Richards - MBE; composer James MacMillan - CBE; Eileen Caddy, co-founder of the Findhorn Foundation - MBE; Robert Crawford, chief executive Scottish Enterprise - CBE; veteran marathon runner Jenny Wood Allen - MBE.
