Romantic Scotland

22/12/2003

Couples are to be encouraged to visit Scotland for romantic breaks.

VisitScotland's Romantic Scotland 2004 campaign has been launched on the anniversary of Madonna and Guy Ritchie's Highland wedding which raised the profile of Scotland as a place for romance.

Speaking at the launch, Tourism Minister Frank McAveety said that Scotland is becoming recognised as one of the world's most romantic destinations.

Mr McAveety said:

"Celebrities like Madonna and Stella McCartney have chosen to get married in Scotland, and this campaign aims to attract couple of all ages to enjoy a holiday here, whether it be a wedding, honeymoon, anniversary or simply a romantic break.

"We have fantastic scenery, a wonderful built heritage with castles and historic houses, lively cities and friendly people - this is the perfect place for couples to enjoy time together."

The launch featured former Miss Scotland, Juliet Jane Horne, wearing the first-ever wedding dress made from heather.
