The Solicitor General, Elish Angiolini QC, today
welcomed women from minority communities acrossGlasgowto an event designed to increase mutual understanding
and encourage communication.
The event was organised by the Procurator Fiscal
atGlasgowin close co-operation withMeridianand West of Scotland Racial Equality Council and
aimed to provide information on the range of services
carried out by the Procurator Fiscal.
Issues under discussion ranged from domestic
abuse and racist crime to immigration issues.
Elish Angiolini said:
"This an excellent opportunity to explain more
about the role of the Procurator Fiscal, and to hear at
first hand about the issues affecting women from
minority communities across Glasgow. Procurators Fiscal
are working hard to listen and respond to the
communities they serve. By building relationships and
improving communication with these communities we are
better able to understand their particular needs and
concerns."
Area Procurator Fiscal forGlasgowCatherine Dyer said:
"I am pleased to be able to meet so many
representatives of the communities that I and my colleagues
in theGlasgowoffice serve. I want to take the opportunity to
reassure these communities that anyone coming in to contact
with the Procurator Fiscal will be treated with sensitivity
and respect. I also want to reaffirm our commitment to
dealing robustly with racist crime."
