Dublin waterfront visit
01/12/2003
Scotland's Communities Ministers will be inDublintoday to look at the Irish capital's ambitious
waterfront regeneration project and to discuss planning
issues with their Dail counterparts.
Margaret Curran and her Deputy Mary Mulligan are to
visit the Dublin Docklands Development Authority, where
they will hear about and see evidence of major regeneration
projects in the fastest growing area inIreland.
The Ministers will also visit the Ballymun area of
the city, a 1960s housing development which is undergoing
comprehensive regeneration, and An Bord Pleanala, the Irish
equivalent of the Scottish Executive Inquiry Reporters
Unit. The day will conclude with attendance at a St
Andrew's Day Reception for a visiting Scottish Trade
Delegation.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Margaret Curran
said:
"I have been told that the ambitious and on-going
regeneration of the waterfront inDublinhas been a success so far. I am keen to
explore with the Dublin Docklands authorities and my Irish
Ministerial counterparts what has contributed to this
progress, and the lessons the Executive can learn for
potential regeneration projects in
Scotland, including the Clyde Waterfront.
"I am also looking to explore to what extent
theDublinwaterfront regeneration has had a beneficial impact
on the local communities, and if so, just how this was
achieved.
We are looking at new delivery models for
regeneration inScotland, and I hope to use this intensive fact-finding visit
to explore the broader approaches that have been adopted
for regeneratingDublinin recent years.
I look forward to sharing the experiences of this
visit with Ministerial colleagues who have a policy
interest in regeneration and enterprise."
