Minister pledges to protect electricity consumers
17/11/2003
Deputy Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning
Lewis Macdonald today pledged to work closely with the DTI
to protect the interests of electricity consumers in the
north of Scotland.
His pledge follow the announcement earlier today by
Ofgem that it intends to remove hydro benefit, after
receiving legal advice that it does not comply with
European legislation.
"I welcome the fact that Stephen Timms and the DTI have
undertaken to look immediately at how to minimise the
effect of this decision on consumers.
"We will be working closely with the DTI and will also
work with the industry and the regulator to try to ensure
customers do not lose out. I am confident that a
constructive approach will deliver for North of Scotland
consumers," he said.
