Regional Selective Assistance quarterly report

Businesses accepted over £9 million in Regional
Selective Assistance offers during the period from July to
September this year, according to the latest RSA quarterly
report published today.
In total 35 businesses have benefited. They plan
investment of over £41 million which will help create and
safeguard over 1,500 jobs. Almost 70 per cent of the
businesses accepting grant this quarter were Scottish
owned.
Deputy Minister for Enterprise Lewis Macdonald today
urged more eligible Scottish firms to use Regional
Selective Assistance as a way of growing and developing
their business.
Mr Macdonald said:
"These RSA offers are aimed at boosting business growth
and investment, and investing in Scottish ideas and
skills. RSA forms a vital part of our work to create the
right conditions for economic growth.
"I welcome the fact that Scottish-owned businesses are
continuing to benefit from funding, and I would urge all
businesses to find out whether RSA can help grow their
business, now and in the future.
"Alongside this support for local projects, we are still
looking to attract inward investment from firms that can
offer high-value jobs and projects."
Examples of firms listed in the latest RSA quarterly
report are detailed below.
PharmaImaging Group Limited is a start-up to be based in
a new state of the art facility in Livingston, West
Lothian. It will carry out clinical research studies for
worldwide pharmaceutical companies using sophisticated
scanning technologies. It will also use its facilities to
enable the early
detection and treatment of illnesses such as
cancer. The company has
accepted an RSA grant offer of £1.95m, the largest
grant accepted this quarter.
Cascade Technologies Ltd is a new Scottish start-up
company created from a PhD research project at the
University of Strathclyde. The company will develop and
market portable gas sensors, using innovative technology,
for the defence, security and health care industries. An
RSA offer of £180,000 aims to assist the company to
expand.
Weir Pumps Ltd - Weir Services Division is a part of the
Weir Group PLC, an engineering company founded in 1871
which has its global headquarters in Scotland. It accepted
an RSA offer of £220,000 for a project to establish a hydro
electricity plant upgrade & refurbishment service in
Alloa aimed at the hydro power generation industry. .
OKI (UK) Ltd, is a Japanese owned company which
manufactures consumable products for printers and faxes,
assembles and configures printers & faxes to customer
specifications and distributes throughout Europe, the
Middle East and Africa. The company has accepted an RSA
offer of £900,000 to diversify and modernise the business
in Cumbernauld.
