Top team for financial strategy group

Membership of the senior level group tasked with delivering a strategy for Scotland's financial services sector was announced today.

The Financial Services Strategy Group, chaired by Enterprise Minister Jim Wallace, is aimed at ensuring the long-term success of the financial services industry.

Mr Wallace said:

"The financial services sector represents a real success story for Scotland. Its importance to our economy is not in any doubt. It directly employs around 100,000 people, some 4.5 per cent of our working population. But we cannot stand still and simply hope that this success will continue. We must seek to build on the strengths of the sector to sustain it for the long-term.

"I'm delighted we now have the team in place to take this important work forward. The quality and seniority of the Group is compelling evidence of the commitment across the private and public sectors.

"I look forward to beginning work at our first meeting later this month."

FINANCIAL SERVICES STRATEGY GROUP MEMBERSHIP

First Minister Jack McConnell announced the creation of the FSSG on 22 September 2003.

The group's first meeting is scheduled for 24 November. At that meeting, the group is expected to consider and agree its terms of reference and timeframes.
