Scottish poppy online donations launched

31/10/2003

The Scottish Poppy Appeal's online donation facility was launched today at the Appeal's Edinburgh HQ.

First Minister Jack McConnell joined workers from the Lady Haig's Poppy Factory for the launch. He said:

"Every year the Poppy Appeal gives us all an opportunity to remember and pay tribute to the brave Scottish men and women who have served this country with distinction. The heroism of British troops inIraqmakes this year's Appeal even more important and I urge all Scots to donate generously."

The Appeal's President, the Very Rev Dr James Harkness, says: "The Poppy Appeal has never been more relevant, and we must keep abreast of the latest technology in order to maximise our income. The cost of last century's conflicts must still be paid and our resources have never been so stretched."
