National Galleries Trustees
10/09/2003
Culture Minister Frank McAveety today announced the
appointment of two new Members to the Board of Trustees of
the National Galleries of Scotland.
Mr Gordon Mackie and Mr James Dawnay will serve for four
years until July 31, 2007. The posts are part time and are
not remunerated.
The Trustees of the National Galleries of Scotland have
a statutory duty to care for, preserve and develop existing
collections and to make them available to the general
public and for research.
The National Galleries, a Non-Departmental Public Body
(NDPB), receive annual funding of £10 million from
the Executive.
Mr McAveety said:
"The new Trustees will bring their considerable
experience to the Board of the National Galleries of
Scotland, a major Scottish cultural public body.
"The Trustees have a crucial role in determining the
policies and priorities for the National Galleries, in
overseeing the operation of the Galleries, and in ensuring
good value for money for public funds.
"I look forward to working with the new Trustees, and
the Chair and Board of the National Galleries of Scotland,
in pursuing Scottish Ministers' aims of promoting
participation and excellence in the cultural field."
