'Yellow taxibus' service starts up
The UK's first commercial flexible transport service to take passengers from their door into the heart of Edinburgh was launched today.
Transport Minister Nicol Stephen commended Stagecoach who have launched 'Yellow Taxibus' and funded the initiative which combines a fixed bus route from Dunfermline to Edinburgh with the flexibility of a pre-booked taxi-style service.
The Minister was at the inauguration of the service at Ferrytoll Park and Ride on the north side of the Forth Bridge with Stagecoach Chief Executive Brian Souter.
Mr Stephen said:
"I congratulate Stagecoach on developing this innovative new service which combines the benefits of a traditional, fixed route bus service with the flexibility of pre-booked pick-ups from home.
"Yellow Taxibus is a UK first - an entirely commercial transport service which is demand responsive. It is an excellent example of operators developing new approaches to meet the transport needs of today.
"The Executive is committed to improving public transport. Spending on public transport - which is top of our priorities - will rise by over 70% in three years. Initiatives such as the Yellow Taxibus complement this commitment."
