Dunfermline Procurator Fiscal Office

15/08/2003

The Lord Advocate was at the Dunfermline Procurator Fiscal office today as part of a programme of visits being undertaken by the Scottish Law Officers to discuss the modernisation of the Crown Office and fisscal service with staff and to hear their views on the reform.

Lord Advocate Colin Boyd met the District Fiscal Dr Alastair Brown, who took up his appointment as fiscal for Dunfermline in June this year.

Mr Boyd said:

"Our wide-ranging programme of reform is now well underway and Alastair Brown, working closely with the dedicated and professional staff in the Dunfermline office, will take forward this programme of reform at a local level. Through their dedication and hard work, staff have already reduced the time it takes to process cases, meaning a speedier justice system for the Dunfermline community.

"The new area structure is also having a significant impact on the efficiency of the Dunfermline office, improving the support available, and allowing local fiscals to build closer working relationships with their police counterparts on a district and Area level.

"I believe that these improvements will have a real impact on tackling crime in the area and improve the service we provide to local communities in Fife. Today I had the opportunity to discuss this reform with local staff who are vital to achieving our goal of a modern, effective, and responsive prosecution service."
