Upper Forth crossing draft orders

06/08/2003

Minister for Transport Nicol Stephen today welcomed the next stage of the Upper Forth crossing project ahead of publication of the proposed route on Friday.

The draft road orders will be published on Friday 8 August with adverts placed in the local press. Public exhibitions will be held next week in Kincardine, Airth and Alloa.

The Minister said:

"I saw good progress on the Kincardine Eastern Link road when I visited the area last week. The publication of the details of the proposed route for the new bridge scheme is another important milestone.

"This project will transform transport links in the area and open up new economic opportunities. The public exhibitions next week will give local residents and others the opportunity to look in detail at the proposals. I hope as many people as possible take the opportunity to give us their views."

The draft road orders set out the proposed line of the bridge and supporting measures. Anyone can object or make representations to the road orders. In some circumstances, if objections cannot be resolved, Ministers may decide to hold a Public Local Inquiry. The draft compulsory purchase order, which identifies the extent of land the Scottish Ministers wish to acquire for the project, will be published separately towards the end of August

Subject to the satisfactory completion of the statutory procedures, contractors will be invited to prepare bids for the £89.5m project by Summer 2005. Once the new bridge is open essential repairs will then be made to the present Kincardine bridge, which will be treated as a separate contract.

Exhibitions will be held in Kincardine Community Centre on the 11 th and 12 th August. Monday 11 th 10.00am-12.00pm exhibition opened for viewing by MSPs, Councillors and their officials, and leaders of the Community Councils. 11 th August 1.00pm - 8.00pm and 12 th August 10.00am - 8.00pm exhibition open to the general public. Exhibitions will also be held in Radisson Airth Castle Hotel 10.00am - 8.00pm on the 13 th August and Alloa Town Hall 10.00am - 8.00pm on the 14 th August.
