Executive 'leading by example'
19/02/2003
The Executive is leading by example in helping to
achieve the goal of excellence in the delivery of public
services, a conference was told today.
The Executive was said to be pressing ahead with a
number of initiatives formulated by Executive officials
after listening to service deliverers and those on the
frontline.
Delivering the keynote speech at the Working Lives in
Public Service Conference 2003 in Edinburgh, Public
Services Minister Andy Kerr said:
"Delivering better, more efficient public services which
get it right first time for the customer is a top priority
for the Executive. A committed workforce, learning from,
and sharing best practice with, our key partners can help
deliver change and improve public services.
"The Executive is addressing many of these issues
through the 'Changing to Deliver' programme. We are
actively promoting work-life balance and currently
developing a Human Resource strategy that will ensure that
the Executive has the capability to meet these
challenges.
"Meeting expectations and delivering choice in the
public sector is the challenge now facing us all. All
public service organisations have a part to play in the
delivery of customer focused, excellent public services in
Scotland."
The Conference provides an important stepping stone in
the creation of a cross public sector network of expertise
by bringing together practitioners from all sectors for the
first time and by facilitating post conference
communication both directly and via the website -
