Appointments to sportscotland

Two new appointments to the Board of
sportscotland have been announced.
Steven Grimmond and Kim Atkinson will serve on the board
for four years. The appointments are unpaid.
Steven Grimmond is Director of Leisure and the Arts at
Dundee City Council. He is also Vice Chairman of the Voice
of Chief Officers of Cultural, Community and Leisure
Services in Scotland and COSLA adviser on sport and the
arts. He is a member of the Dundee Sports Council and
Managing Director of the Dundee Ice Arena.
Kim Atkinson is currently undertaking a postgraduate
masters in Sport and Recreation Business Management at
Edinburgh University after completing a sabbatical year as
the Vice President of Sport at the University of Aberdeen
and Chair of the Student Association's Sports Council. She
has been involved in developing and promoting sport on a
local and national scale. She is a keen participant and has
extensive coaching experience in a wide variety of
sports
Neither of the appointees has undertaken any political
activities over the last five years nor do they hold any
other Ministerial appointments.
Sport Minister Mike Watson has also re-appointed
Alastair Dempster as
sportscotland's Chairman and Ritchie
Campbell and Ian Mason as Board Members for a further
term.
Mr Watson said:
"I am pleased to announce these new appointments to
sportscotland, particularly that of Kim
Atkinson, who, at 23, will provide a different perspective,
as well as sending a strong message about the Executive's
attempts to involve young people in sport. She and Steven
Grimmond will complement those already on the Board of
sportscotland and will enable it to
continue its positive contribution to
sportscotland's task of leading sport and
sports development in Scotland. I am also pleased that
Alastair Dempster, Ritchie Campbell and Ian Mason have
agreed to serve a further period on the Board."
The appointments and re-appointments were made under the
Code of Practice issued by the Office of the Commissioner
for Public Appointments.
sportscotland is the national agency
responsible for the development of sport in Scotland and is
also the main adviser to Scottish Ministers on sports
issues and issues related to sport.
