Scottish Enterprise appointments

A new appointment to the board of Scottish Enterprise
has been announced.Two other board members have been
re-appointed to stay on for a second term.
The posts are part-time and attract a remuneration of
£9,028 for a time commitment of two days per month. All
three appointments run from December 1, 2002 to November
30, 2005.
Scottish Enterprise is a non-departmental public body
(NDPB) and is the Executive's main vehicle for economic
development in North East, Central and Southern
Scotland.
The new appointment is
Barbara Duffner OBE, currently the Head of
Personnel for Royal Mail (North) who has experience of
Strategic Planning and Organisational Development and
Change.
She was Chair of the Careers Service Review and has been
a member of the Welfare to Work Task Force (Scotland). She
received no remuneration for these appointments.
She is currently a member of the Judicial Appointments
Board for Scotland for which she receives £175 per day. Mrs
Duffner has not been politically active in the last five
years.
The re-appointed board members are:
Ian Ritchie. His career has focused on the
creation and growth of small, high-tech companies. He is
currently the non-executive Chairman of Digital Bridges Ltd
and Active Navigation Ltd and a Director of several others
including VIS Entertainment plc, Voxar Ltd and EPIC Group
Plc.
He is a member of the Scottish Higher Education Funding
Council, for which he receives £5,031 per annum and the
Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council which
attracts an honorarium of £7,800 per annum. He is a trustee
of the Bletchley Park Trust and the National Museums of
Scotland (not remunerated). He is a fellow of the Royal
Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
He has not been politically active in the last five
years.
Councillor Christine May. She is an active
member of COSLA and currently the Leader of the
Administration of Fife Council where she has been a
councillor since 1988.
She serves on the European Union Committee of the
Regions and is a member of the group currently carrying out
a review of European Programme Management Executives.
Christine May is Chair of the Lowland Scotland Objective
3 Funding Partnership for which the remuneration is £2,550
and is also a Board Member of Scottish Homes which attracts
a salary of £7,673 per annum for a commitment of 2 days per
month. She is a member of the Scottish Labour Party and the
Co-operative Party.
Enterprise Minister Iain Gray said:

joining the Board of Scottish Enterprise and that
Ian Ritchie and Christine May have accepted my invitation
to serve a second term on the Board.
"I would also like to extend my thanks to
Belinda Robertson and Brian Souter, whose terms of
appointment end later this year. I very much appreciate the
business perspective and experience that they have brought
to Scottish Enterprise and I am grateful to them for their
commitment.
"The last three years have been a particularly
challenging time for Scottish Enterprise with the
publication of Smart Successful Scotland, which for the
first time sets out clear strategic guidance, including
specific priorities to the Enterprise Networks. The Board
has a crucial role in taking this forward and I am
confident that we have the right mix of skills and
expertise to do so successfully."
These Ministerial Public Appointments were made in
accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Office
of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
