11/11/2002
Mrs Shiona Waldron, the new district fiscal for
Kilmarnock today received her commission from Scotland's
senior Law Officer, the Lord Advocate, Colin Boyd QC.
Shiona Waldron will hold a commission for Kilmarnock
sheriff court district and will act as the personal
representative of the Lord Advocate on a day-to-day basis
in relation to the investigation and prosecution of crime
and the investigation of sudden, suspicious and unexplained
deaths in Kilmarnock.
She will work closely with Ayrshire area procurator
fiscal, Janet Cameron, who has full management and
budgetary responsibility for the Ayrshire area.
Colin Boyd said:
"I am delighted to be able to announce the appointment
of Shiona Waldron as District Fiscal for Kilmarnock.
"Shiona joins a team of dedicated and professional staff
in the Kilmarnock office, and will work with them, the
police and the courts to help fulfill our commitment to
local delivery of excellent service, in Kilmarnock and
throughout the Ayrshire area. We are committed to
increasing frontline resources to ensure that the public
receive the standards of service they have a right to
expect and we have secured significant additional funding
to see this through."
The Pryce-Dyer Management Review of the Crown Office and
Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), published on 4 March,
2002, presented different options for the number and size
of areas for the COPFS.
After consultation it was decided to implement the
structure based on 11 areas. Seven areas: Central; Fife;
Tayside; Grampian; Lothian & Borders; Dumfries &
Galloway; and Highland & Islands match the boundaries
of the corresponding police force areas. There are four
areas within the force area of Strathclyde Police -
Lanarkshire; Glasgow; Argyll & Clyde; and Ayrshire.
A map of the boundaries is available from the Crown
Office press office or can be downloaded from the website
