A907 missing link opens

08/11/2002

The final stretch of A907 Stirling to Alloa road was officially opened today.

The missing link of the joint Stirling and Clackmanannshire council project was completed when the Executive provided a funding shortfall of over £4 million following local government reorganisation.

Opening the 3km stretch of road, First Minister Jack McConnell said:

"This road will make a huge difference to local people, providing a modern route to replace the windy road I used to travel daily during my time in Stirling.

"The completion of this road will help ease congestion, making travelling less stressful and safer as well as providing other improvements, including a cycleway on the old road.

"I know that everyone who lives, works and visits this area will be delighted that this incomplete stretch of road is now joined up to the rest of the network making it an asset to the community."

The 3km stretch of road was begun by Central Regional Council. Following local government reorganisation, neither Stirling nor Clackmannanshire councils could afford to complete the road.

In April 2000, Jack McConnell - as Finance Minister - announced a £3.3 award to the councils to complete the route. A further £910,000 was provided in 2001.
