New Trustees for Scotland's Museums

14/10/2002

Two new Trustees have been appointed by Scottish Ministers to assist the 15 strong Board of the National Museums of Scotland.

The new Trustees, Professor Michael Lynch and Mr Ian Ritchie, will assist the Board in its statutory duty to care for, preserve and develop the collections of the National Museums, making them available to the general public and researchers.

Trustees have an important role in the operation of the National Museums, which receive annual funding of £17.5 million from the Executive.

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Dr Elaine Murray said:

"Both of the newly appointed Trustees will bring with them valuable experience which will assist them in making a significant contribution to the work of the Board.

"The Trustees have a crucial role in determining the policies and priorities for the National Museums, in overseeing the operation of the Museums, and in ensuring good value for money for public funds.

"I look forward to working with Professor Lynch and Mr Ritchie, and the Chair and Board of the National Museums of Scotland, in pursuing Scottish Ministers' aims of promoting participation and excellence in the cultural field".
