Consultation on cultural strategy

16/09/2002

A consultation on guidance for local authorities on the implementation of the National Cultural Strategy begins today.

The role of local authorities will be critical to the strategy's success, Culture Minister Mike Watson said.

"A vigorous and diverse cultural life is at the heart of the Executive's aspirations for Scotland. Participation can benefit everyone - empowering individuals and strengthening communities.

"This draft Guidance provides, for the first time, a comprehensive account of the broad range of ways in which Local Authorities can contribute to delivering the aims and objectives of the National Cultural Strategy. Many examples draw on existing good practice already demonstrated in Scotland.

"I hope that through this consultation period we will gain an insight into the vast range of initiatives that authorities across Scotland are already using, and these will be published with the final guidance."

The consultation period ends on January 13, 2003.
