New Auchterarder Primary School opens

The new Auchterarder Primary School opened today, providing 21 st century facilities for 390 pupils.

Speaking at the opening, Education Minister Cathy Jamieson said the new school offered an excellent learning and teaching environment for pupils and teachers.

She added that other pupils across Scotland were also returning to it was one of 18new or refurbished schools and welcomed this progress on the school estate which was securing the best opportunities for the future for pupils and teachers. which is opening at the start of this term, benefiting more than 10,000 pupils across Scotland.

Ms Jamieson said:

"Continued investment in Scotland's education system is vital to the future success of our young people. The Executive and councils are working together and delivering making excellent progress on significant improvements to ing the schools estate.

"We must ensure that all children can learn in modern, well-stocked classrooms with access to excellent facilities including computers."

"This summer, the Executive announced the first stage in Scotland's biggest ever school buildings programme - providing an investment package of £1.15 million. We are taking real action to tackle the decades of neglect in Scotland's schools."

Ms Jamieson added that she was impressed with Auchterarder Primary's open plan design, built around a central courtyard play area.

She said:

"I know that Perth and Kinross Council and Auchterarder School are proud of the new building's design and, from what I have seen here, I share their enthusiasm. It is a pleasure to open the primary school. This is an exciting time for teachers and pupils, and I know they will want to make the most of what it offers."

Auchterarder Primary School has 390 pupils with an 80-place nursery class. It has 14 classrooms. It is the second phase of a four-part community school development project costing a total of £12.15 million.
