Glasgow water fit for drinking
07/08/2002
The Minister for Environment and Rural Development, Ross
Finnie, has welcomed the decision to lift the boiled water
notice in Glasgow following tests to the water supply.
The decision brings to an end a disruptive period
with residents urged to boil water because of higher than
normal levels of the cryptosporidium parasite.
Mr Finnie said:
"Today's announcement is clearly welcome and will be a
great relief to people across Glasgow. I am glad that the
disruptive but necessary precautionary action taken by
Greater Glasgow Health Board and Scottish Water has worked
and that people can again enjoy drinking water straight
from the tap.
"The health and water bodies managing the incident will
now prepare reports for Greater Glasgow Health Board and
Scottish Water. Ministers will see these reports and seek
subsequent assurances that the lessons learnt will be acted
upon."
