Plans to tackle congestion in Central Scotland
13/06/2002
Three reports setting out recommendations to tackle
congestion on the A8, A80 and M74 corridors were published
today.
Minister for Enterprise, Transport and Lifelong Learning
Iain Gray said that the Central Scotland Transport Corridor
Studies (CSTCS) represented a step forward in tackling
central Scotland congestion.
The reports by consultants MVA were discussed on Tuesday
by the CSTCS Steering Group and were submitted to Ministers
yesterday.
A series of public exhibitions is planned in August and
September to allow the Plans to be presented to the public
within each of the corridors.
Today's publication and subsequent public consultation
will clear the way for Ministerial decisions on the way
forward later this year, taking account of the consultants'
recommendations, the comments from the Steering Group and
members of the public.
Welcoming the reports, Iain Gray said
"These reports allow us to move ahead with consideration
of the options for the main Central Scotland transport
corridors.
"We are committed to building a sustainable, effective
and integrated transport system. These reports are an
important contribution to that. We will consider the
recommendations very carefully, taking account of views
from all interests. I expect to announce decisions on the
way forward later this year."
The Corridor Studies can be accessed on the consultants'
website at
www.cstcs.co.uk. Any comments on the consultants' recommendations
should be sent no later than the end of September to:
