Fife to share in £16 million of Euro funds

Fife will benefit from a share of more than £16 million
of European Funds for a variety of projects across
Scotland, it was announced today.
Among the beneficiaries is a new marketing initiative
for Rosyth Ferry, a project which aims to generate
additional overseas visitors to the East of Scotland.
Making the announcement, Deputy Minister for Finance and
Public Services Peter Peacock said:
"I am delighted to be able to announce today a further
injection of European Funding which will benefit a wide and
diverse range of projects across the East of Scotland.
"More than £700,000 has been awarded to this new
initiative which will play a major role in the drive to
bring more visitors to the East of Scotland. The Superfast
Ferries daily service from Zeebrugge to Rosyth will be the
first direct car and passenger service to the Scottish
mainland.
"The projects which I have announced today will provide
excellent benefits, both to the wider Programme area as a
whole as well as to a number of the local Community
Economic Development areas spread around the East of
Scotland."
The East of Scotland Objective 2 Programme 2000-2006 was
approved in principle by the European Commission in
November 2000 and is worth €250 million over the period.
The figure includes transitional funding of over €80 for
those areas in the East of Scotland that lost full status
from the present Objective 2 and Objective 5b
Programmes.
This third round of awards to the Programme takes the
total amount of ERDF committed to date is £70 million.
