Scottish International Forum

12/02/2002

The Scottish International Forum, a new group created to maximise and improve the promotion of Scotland overseas, was launched today.

It will bring together the main organisations and agencies involved in promoting Scotland overseas, including Scottish Enterprise, the CBI, VisitScotland, the Scottish Arts Council, the British Council, the Scottish Parliament, the Scotland Office and CoSLA. It will be chaired by the Executive.

Deputy First Minister Jim Wallace said:

"There is enormous international interest in Scotland. We must all play our part to maintain Scotland's strong international profile and to maximise the benefits the people of Scotland obtain from our strong image overseas.

"The Executive has already invested a great deal of time and effort in working towards this goal with major events like Tartan Day and Scotland Week in Brussels, and through developing links with other regions and countries of Europe. Working with our partners in this Forum and in the UK Government, we will continue to work to build Scotland's profile overseas.

"Anyone who is in the business of promoting Scotland overseas, will readily understand the potential value of bringing this group together - and I am confident it will very quickly prove its worth."

A new website to allow the SIF to operate continuously between meetings is being developed by the Executive. The forum will meet once every six months.
