17/01/2002

The appointment of three new members to the Building Standards Advisory Committee was announced today.

The new members are: Ms Heather Chapple, an Architect with Smith Scott Mullan Associates and the DPHS; Mr Robert Coke, Assistant Firemaster at Strathclyde Fire Brigade and Mr Gary Mees, Architectural Technologist and Member of the British Institute of Architectural Technologists.

The Deputy Minister for Social Justice, Margaret Curran, has also re-appointed the following members: Mr Richard Amos, Chartered Building Surveyor in private practice and Mr Sandy Anderson, Managing Director of Bett Homes.

All the appointments will serve for a three-year period which started on 1 January 2002 and ends on 31 December 2004.

The remit of the Building Standards Advisory Committee is to advise Scottish Ministers on the continuing development of the Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations and the operation of the Scottish building control system. The Committee is intended to provide a technical input to proposals for regulations, but with a strong remit to consider both the potential effects of the legislation and its interaction with related legislation.
